back after 4 weeks

Since my last entry right after the Virginia Tech massacre I managed to attend a major high school reunion.  I had not seen a couple of the other alumni since we graduated.
Now that the baseball season is well underway, we have been following the two New York teams.  Most of us are surprise at the Yankees’ poor performance, especially with their payroll and tradition.  We are mostly ecstatic with the New York Mets’ being contenders and near the top in their division.  However, it “ain't over ‘til it’s over”.  The 3 of us went to a minor league baseball game at Citibank Park earlier this month to see our Long Island Ducks play the Lancaster Barnstormers and win.  Now my daughter wants to see the Yankees this season.  My wife and I said that we will go to a game, if she cooperates with us around the house and when we go out.
The spring season began for the West Islip Soccer Club and my daughter has been participating in the special education division, called the High Flyers.  I have been helping her on the pitch, when “soccer buddies” were not available.  Since I played for my parish team in elementary and high school, I did remember several things that the coaches taught me.
I have been busy with the fire brigade.  We have elected a new chief, since the sitting Chief of the Department decided to step down due to personal reasons.  Two of the candidates for second assistant chief (3rd in command) was from my company, but neither won.  However, the Chief is one of my company members.  I also was busy on a call in which we had to search for a gas leak in a residence, and get suited up in self contained breathing apparatus.
At the beginning of May we went out to the Tanger Outlet Mall in Riverhead and bought sneakers for each of us and for my daughter, some other garments.  I bought a new pair of Oxfords.  After that it was dinner at our favorite restaurant in the area, The Lobster Roll, which is located in a rural part of Riverhead.  The day after the trip there was the Islip Street Fair on the High Street, which is an annual event.  This year I treated myself to a magnet, which had the Three Stooges picture on it.
My Firm had a health fair a couple of weeks ago and one of the companies there was a podiatrist.  I had a nasty case of athlete’s foot and after a visit to his office after work, I got some medications and the affliction is almost gone.
I also managed to create two new web pages dedicated to baseball in Brooklyn.  One URL is
http://brooklynbaseball.moonfruit.com/. There is a page where you can e/mail comments, almost like a guestbook.  The other is on Yahoo and the URL is:
http://www.geocities.com/ex_mothman29/brooklyn_baseball.html  Sorry, no guestbook.
We went to visit my mom & dad this past Mothers Day.  While my wife and I usually go out to dinner, this time we all ate in.  However, since I would develop cabin fever being cooped up in an apartment all day, I went to a walk through the old New York World’s Fair grounds to check out the cricket matches.  The park has several pitches set up, as well as some makeshift pitches.  I stopped to watch some matches before heading through my old neighborhood and back to the apartment.

Bowling is over for the season.  I managed to get one of my highest scores that I can remember this past Saturday – 138.  With the parish league over, the 3 of us plan to go on our own and practice and have some fun together.

We have a new manager of my department at work.  So far he seems to be a decent person.
